Fenice Palace Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Fenice Palace on Nove crkve street, you immediately get that “I made the right choice” feeling. This four-star property sits right in the medieval heart of Šibenik, and I mean literally — you’re surrounded by centuries-old stone buildings and narrow cobblestone streets that feel like they belong in a fairy tale. The entrance has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which honestly makes it feel more authentic than some of the flashier places I’ve stayed.

The Heart of Old Town

Here’s what I love about the location — you can roll out of bed and be at Šibenik’s famous Cathedral of St. James in about two minutes on foot. The UNESCO World Heritage site is practically your neighbor, and those morning walks through the old town before the tour groups arrive? Pure magic. You’re also just steps away from the waterfront, where you can catch ferries to the Kornati Islands if you’re feeling adventurous. The locals weren’t kidding when they gave this spot a 9.8 location score — couples especially seem to get it, rating it even higher for romantic getaways.

Your Room and Comfort

The room I stayed in had that perfect balance of historic charm and modern comfort that’s actually harder to pull off than you’d think. You get original stone details and character, but also proper air conditioning and a bathroom that works like it should. The windows open onto those narrow medieval streets, and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the cathedral, well — you’ll understand why people keep coming back. The beds are genuinely comfortable too, which matters more than you realize after a day of exploring Dalmatian coast towns.

Exploring from Your Doorstep

What really sold me on this place was how effortlessly you can dive into local life. There’s a fantastic little restaurant just around the corner where the owner still remembers your coffee order by day three, and the morning market in the main square becomes part of your routine. You can walk to everything that matters in Šibenik’s old town, but you’re also perfectly positioned for day trips — Split is about an hour away, and those incredible Krka waterfalls are even closer. The narrow streets mean no tour buses rumbling past your window at dawn, which is honestly a blessing.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Fenice Palace isn’t trying to be the biggest or flashiest hotel in Croatia, and that’s exactly why it works so well. You get that authentic Dalmatian experience without sacrificing comfort, and the location really can’t be beat if you want to feel like you’re living in medieval Šibenik rather than just visiting it. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there — it’s one of those places where everything just clicks, from the helpful staff who actually know the area to the way you can slip out for evening walks along the waterfront whenever the mood strikes.

Reviews of Fenice Palace

Only wonderful things to say about this charming property and our host, Josip. We requested an early arrival but our tour guide changed our departure time so we had a later check-in. Josip waited for us then finally called to see if we were okay. He was SO gracious and kind when we told him we'd be much later. He greeted us with a warm welcome and big smile. Josip was equally lovely the next morning at check out. Our room was extremely comfortable and rustic with modern touches (including micellar water!). Very comfortable beds, even the pullout bed! This was our 7th hotel stay in Croatia and it easily rates 10/10.

What could be improved: We loved everything about Fenice Palace and Josip!

I would go anytime again to this lovely place. Josip was a great host, friendly and very responsive. The hotel is impeccably clean, beautiful and in the heart of Sibenik.

  • Bram from Netherlands – 13 August 2024 (10/10)

We booked the junior suite with row kids and two adults. Everything in the room was very well maintained and very clean. The owner was very friendly and helpful with everything we asked. The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of the old town of Šibenik, with many nice restaurants within walking distance. I can definitely recommend this hotel.

  • Maja from Croatia – 11 August 2024 (10/10)

Everything about this apartment is wonderful: the host, Josip, is very friendly, the location is perfect if you want to be centrally located (and, even though it is in the center, during the night it’s very quiet). The apartment is clean and neat. It was even cooled in anticipation of my arrival, which I appreciated greatly. The bathroom had everything one would need for a pleasant stay. The walk in shower was very nice. Would stay here again (and hopefully will)!
